AFARA

The AFARA project is funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union as part of the Industrie.IN.NRW innovation competition .

The name AFARA stands for adaptive, non-destructive testing of fiber composite materials using AI-supported radar. The aim of the project is the non-destructive testing of fiber composite materials in the production of rotor blades for wind turbines. This way, fault locations can be identified with high accuracy and speed. Defects in the fiber layers should be detected before casting so that they can be corrected with minimal time and material expenditure.

The innovation of the project lies in the combination of radar technology, robotics and artificial intelligence. This can improve the quality and safety of fiber composite materials. At the same time, production costs and material waste are reduced.
