sofTSense

The project is part of the funding initiative Digital GreenTech – environmental technology meets digitalisation. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) supports Digital GreenTech as part of its Strategy for Research for Sustainable Development (FONA) and the Naturally.Digital.Sustainable action plan.

The sofTSense project is developing a soft sensor for determining the composition of wastewater.

An essential property of wastewater is its dry matter content (DM content), which has a decisive influence on the operation of wastewater treatment processes. Currently, the DM content of wastewater is determined by analysing samples in the laboratory. However, this leads to a significant time delay between sampling and the result. This delay makes it difficult to adjust operating processes to varying wastewater properties. Real-time provision of the TSS content is therefore an important key to optimised wastewater treatment operation and to saving costs, energy and resources.
