Exciting Exchange at the 2026 IPSE Symposium

Did you know that the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Ruhr University Bochum consists of five institutes? Each of these institutes covers a specific area of mechanical engineering. The ZESS research building belongs to theInstitut Product and Service Engineering.A total of six of the twelve chairs working at ZESS are part of this institute.

At the IPSE Symposium on February 12, 2026, all the institute's chairs came together at ZESS to exchange ideas and identify areas for collaborative research. In addition to a poster session, there were presentations on current research projects, including those by:

  • Johanna Voß, Chair of Industrial Sales and Service Engineering, on the topic of “Trust in Digitally Networked, Global Hydrogen Value Creation Systems”
  • Alexander Große-Kreul, Chair of Production Systems, on the topic of “Sustainable Building – Reusing Existing Structures through Automated Refurbishment”

  • Henrik Dobbelstein, Chair of Applied Laser Technologies, on the topic of “Direct Energy Deposition with Laser Beam (DED-LB) in Additive Manufacturing”
  • Kamil Sommer, Chair of Control Engineering and Systems Theory, on the topic of “Real-Time State Estimation of Flow Fields in Hydraulic Machines with Reduced Models”

This year, the symposium was organised by the Chair of Hybrid Additive Manufacturing as well as the Chair of Digital EngineeringMany thanks to Prof. Jan Sehrt, Prof. Detlef Gerhard, Tobias Grimm, Mario Wolf, Oliver Vogt, and the entire organising team for planning this fantastic event!
